My Friend's Happy Remarriage

I heard from a former member of my grief support group who joined another group in a different city when she moved. She met a member of the new group and remarried five years ago. She is extremely happy, says she was terrified to marry again, but took the advice of someone wise and decided to go for it. I will have lots of questions for her and will share her answers in this blog. Like I wonder if she had a prenuptial agreement. Need to ask.

A Bench on the Beach

My revised version of Jude's Bench called A Bench on the Beach is now available on Kindle. This book is now non-fiction rather than a novel and is a shorter version. I rewrote it to make it more helpful to the widows and widowers who are dealing with life alone, with grieving, with surviving the loss of a partner. Look for it in the Kindle Store under L.L. Lee or A Bench On The Beach.

Crabfest and "A Good Catch"

Crabfest in the Bay is on the 4th of July weekend. I've mentioned it in the book I am currently writing. The women in the book take the new men in their lives to Crabfest but fail to connect with these men as well as with each other.

Jude's Bench revisions continue

Continue to convert Jude's Bench from fiction to non-fiction. Not an easy task, but I am reliving my years with Mike and as we approach what would have been our 47th wedding anniversary on June 20th, this is a good thing.

I am reworking Jude's Bench for Kindle. This version will be non-fiction and will be helpful to those who have lost a spouse or partner. The working title is A Bench on the Beach. I'll post when it's available on Kindle.

HUMOROUS NOVEL ABOUT WIDOWHOOD

I AM ABOUT HALFWAY FINISHED WITH MY LATEST NOVEL, A GOOD CATCH. I'M REALLY HAVING A GOOD TIME WRITING THIS ONE, MAKING FUN OF ROMANCE THE SECOND OR EVEN THIRD TIME AROUND. THE BOOK IS REALLY ABOUT SENIORS FALLING IN LOVE AND TRYING TO REBUILD A LIFE AFTER LOSING THE LOVES OF THEIR LIVES. IF ANY OF YOU OUT THERE HAVE FUN STORIES TO SHARE THAT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THIS BOOK, PLEASE POST. THANKS.

No News Is Good News

Family and friends in South Louisiana are still awaiting the floods from the opening of the Morganza Spillway. Several families have left, but more will stay on until they are told to evacuate. Not sure how to help, but waiting and praying that it all fizzles out. Still missing my husband and dreaming about him and feel his support as usual when I need him. Even after almost seven years. Have lowered the Kindle price for Jude's Bench so hopefully it can be made available to more widows and widowers.

Potential Flooding in South Louisiana

MY HUSBAND, MIKE, DIED ALMOST 7 YEARS AGO, BUT TODAY I MISS HIM MORE THAN EVER. HE WOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE MISSISSIPPI FLOODING OUR HOMETOWNS IN SOUTH LOUISIANA. NOT JUST BECAUSE HIS FATHER WAS IN THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, BUT BECAUSE HE WAS CALM IN TIMES OF CRISIS. AND VERY VERY SMART. I GOT THROUGH KATRINA WITHOUT HIM AND ALTHOUGH I NO LONGER LIVE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA, OUR FAMILIES STILL LIVE THERE AND I FEEL AS IF I AM GOING THROUGH THIS WITH THEM AND WITHOUT HIM. I HATE BEING A WIDOW. I MISS MY HUSBAND.

Bus Tour to Key West

JUST RETURNED FROM A TOUR TO KEY WEST. SEVERAL OF THE WOMEN ON THE TOUR WERE WIDOWS, BUT MOST OF THE WOMEN COULDN'T GET THEIR HUSBANDS TO TRAVEL BY BUS. SAW AND DID SOME INTERESTING THINGS. ESPECIALLY LOVED AN ART DECO TOUR IN MIAMI AND A TRAIN TOUR IN KEY WEST. THIS IS A GREAT THING TO DO IF YOU ARE A WIDOW OR WIDOWER. I GOT TO CHAT WITH ONE WOMAN WHO LOST HER HUSBAND 10 YEARS AGO WITH MANY SIMILARITIES TO MY OWN LOSS. THERE WERE ALSO SOME DIVORCED PEOPLE ON THE TOUR. JOINING A GROUP FOR OVER A WEEK IS A GREAT WAY TO MEET PEOPLE AND EXPERIENCE NEW THINGS.

My Menopause Book

Just published my menopause book on Kindle and am updating it especially in terms of using hormones as we age. It should be ready in a few days. Meanwhile, had a good Easter and am getting ready to travel to Key West. Will have my computer with me and will write a chapter or two of my latest book. It's called A Good Catch and it's about being a widow.

EASTER AND WIDOWHOOD

AT EASTER, WE PUT FLOWERS ON THE GRAVES OF OUR LOVED ONES. WE PUT FLOWERS ON THE ALTARS OF OUR CHURCHES IN THE NAMES OF OUR LOVED ONES WHO HAVE LEFT US. AT EASTER, I ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW MY HUSBAND LOVED EATING EASTER CANDY. HE AND MY BROTHER-IN-LAW WOULD COMPETE TO SEE WHO COULD HAVE THE BIGGEST EASTER BASKET AND EAT THE MOST CHOCOLATE. EASTER IS A JOYFUL TIME BUT IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR LOVED ONE, IT CAN BE THE SADDEST TIME OF THE YEAR. TAKE THE TIME TO PICK OR PURCHASE THOSE SPRING FLOWERS AND BRING SOME TO YOUR HOME FOR YOU TO ENJOY AND REMEMBER THE HAPPY TIMES.

APRIL 10, 2011

IN MY  BOOK, JUDE'S BENCH, I GIVE MYSELF THE GIFT OF BEING ABLE TO TALK WITH MY HUSBAND, MIKE, AFTER HE PASSED AWAY. THERE IS SO MUCH WE WIDOWS NEED TO TELL OUR LOVED ONES AFTER THEY ARE GONE. ESPECIALLY IF THEIR DEATHS ARE UNEXPECTED AND EVEN IF IT'S NOT. DURING THE GRIEVING PERIOD AFTER THE SHOCK OF FINDING PART OF OURSELVES MISSING, WE ARE NOT REALLY ABLE TO THINK CLEARLY. WE ARE SAD, WE ARE ANGRY, WE FEEL LOST, WE FEEL LONELY. IN ONE SCENE IN JUDE'S BENCH, THE WIDOWED WIFE, CHRIS TELLS HER HUSBAND HOW ANGRY SHE IS WITH HIM FOR LEAVING HER ALONE. ALTHOUGH IT MAY SEEM IRRATIONAL TO BE ANGRY WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS NO CHOICE ABOUT DYING, MANY OF US ARE. AND IT'S A PERFECTLY NORMAL FEELING THAT WILL BE REPLACED BY OTHER EMOTIONS, SOME RATIONAL, SOME NOT. I TALK A LOT ABOUT THE FIRST YEAR IN JUDE'S BENCH. AS IF BY SOME MAGIC FORMULA, YOU THINK YOU'LL GET OVER YOUR LOSS IN ONE YEAR. I WISH. BUT THAT'S A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER BLOG.

Jude's Bench and Widowhood

When I lost my husband of 40 years, I decided to write a book about what it's like being a widow. I had so many unresolved issues and I needed to talk to him about them. I am a writer of fiction and of non-fiction. I wanted to write a memoir, but couldn't because the pain was too great. So, I decided to write a fictional account. I needed to be able to talk with my husband and in order to do that I had to bring him back. Thus, Jude's Bench was born, a true story within a fictional one. I would like to discuss my books, Jude's Bench and the Sisters Series in terms of widowhood and loss of partners in general.

My book on the loss of a spouse or partner is now on Kindle.
